The Generous Life: A Two-Part Series Starting November 9

Hey DCC Family!

We are so excited about a two-part series we have coming up for you entitled, “The Generous Life.” We want you to imagine a life so full that it just overflows onto everyone around you. That’s the generous life Jesus lived—and the one He invites us into.

Starting November 9, we’re diving into a short, two-part series called The Generous Life. Think of it as a heart-check and a roadmap for becoming more like the Father who loved us so much He didn’t hold back His only Son.

Sunday, November 9: Part 1 The Generous Life in Action First, we want to explore three key areas where we can enlarge our capacity for generosity: our time, talents, and touch. These three flow from our ability to allow God access into our world with His presence, His power, and His priorities. Flowing from God - into our hearts – and ultimately overflowing into our homes, workplaces, and community.

  • Time – While Jesus “had no place to lay his head” He always made time for people - like the woman at the well (John 4). He scheduled margin in His life to make room for people. He prioritized people over productivity.
  • Talent – Remember the little boy’s five loaves and two fish that he allowed the Lord to transform them into a feast for thousands? Well, him doing that is an example for us. Just as he handed over his small “natural” gift to God, God can transform our natural gifts into an amazing blessing for others. Talent multiplies when offered to the Lord.
  • Touch – Jesus touched the leper when no one else would (Mark 1:41). Physical presence and proximity to people around us allow us to remind them, “You matter to God.”

Together, these first three represent generosity “with skin on”—how we show up, serve, and support those around us.

Sunday, November 16: Part 2: The Generous Life in Surrender Secondly, we want to discover how our tongue (the words we use each day), our treasure (finances) and trust in the Lord all resemble a life of godly surrender. These three reflect how the Lord encouraged us to, “take up your cross” in Matthew 16:24— releasing His words, His wealth, and His will for our lives as an act of obedience and surrender to Him.

  • Tongue – From the cross He spoke forgiveness: “Father, forgive them…” (Luke 23:34). Our words can become powerful tools of biblical generosity when we extend grace and forgiveness to one another - especially those who have hurt us or wronged us in any way.
  • Treasure  “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Luke 6:38). Our checkbook is a measuring stick of our capacity for generosity. What do we want, “measured” back to us?
  • Trust – “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”(Matthew 6:31-33, NLT) Trust is the final surrender—releasing outcomes to God instead of clutching for control.

Together, these are some of the best ways to practice biblical generosity from the inside out—how we speak life, release resources, and trust the sovereign plans your Heavenly Father has for you. Remember the Generous Heart that Father God has for us and as we grow our capacity for generosity, we become more like Him to those around us.

Cheering for you,

Pastor Bob & Pastor Paige
