THE GENEROUS LIFE

A Two-Week Series at St. Johns DCC

As we enter the “home stretch” of the 2026 calendar, there is so much to look back on with thankfulness:

  1. How much grace we’ve received
  2. How many times when we felt like God didn’t know our story—yet He reminds us He has never left us or forsaken us
  3. How many sins and short-comings we’ve been forgiven of

“All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ

and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.” —2 Corinthians 5:18 (NIV)

You know what that tells us? God is a generous God. He gives. He supplies. He does “exceedingly abundantly more than we can ever ask or imagine” He will do (Ephesians 3:20).

That’s God’s heart.

Is That Our Heart?

God IS generous. We are made in His image (Genesis 1:26). Therefore, if we want to be more like Him—more godly—we need to grow our capacity for generosity.

We are going to take a fresh look at this all-important topic over the next two weeks during a series we are calling, “The Generous Life.”

Our main verse is something that I think closes the GAP on living the Generous Life:

“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” —Matthew 22:37-40 (NIV)

That’s it:

  • Love God
  • Love People

Jesus said “all of the law and the prophets ‘hinge’ on these two commandments.

What else has “hinges?”

Doors.

I’m seeing that God’s generous heart towards us is ALWAYS OPEN. He is ALWAYS pouring out love, compassion, grace, mercy, and truth towards us every day.

The goal is that we receive it… and we keep the door of generosity open to others.

The more we experience God’s generous nature the more we are to express God’s generous nature to others. Generous in our…

  • and testimony

Loving God.  •  Loving people.

This Series Is for You!

Maybe this has been a hard year for you. Maybe it’s been hard to experience God’s loving, generous heart towards you. This series is for you!

Maybe this has been a hard year of loving others—being generous towards them—like God is toward you. That’s okay—this series is for you too!

Or maybe you know someone who has had a tough year experiencing these two—invite them and tell them, “This series is for you!”
